Cette sonnette de service en laiton massif en forme d'éléphant apporte une présence sculpturale et tactile à un bureau ou un comptoir, sa trompe relevée supportant un large dôme qui sonne avec un son clair et brillant.
Cette sonnette figurative du milieu du siècle allie le charme décoratif à la fonction mécanique, utilisant un percuteur interne activé par un piston qui frappe le dôme pour produire son son caractéristique. Les sonnettes figuratives en laiton comme celle-ci étaient des articles de fantaisie et de service populaires dans les années 1960 et 1970, souvent importées de petits ateliers de laiton pour les réceptions d'hôtel, les comptoirs de service et les bureaux à domicile.
